Oh you have questions?
Well, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to answer a few of them ...
Until lunch, of course.
Is this world a globe? Dunno. The horizon looks pretty flat to me, but I've heard sages and scholars say that it's round. It ain't round where I'm standing!
Does the whole planet have a name? Probably, but it was named by the God-Emperor and so has been scrubbed. People just call it the world if referring to the "safe" area and the greater world if beyond. Or refer to whichever ancient principality existed there, e.g. Gauldia is where the Empire of Orcs live. Broadsea is the Last Bastion, etc.
What is the continent that we are on? It is a giant landmass that once had a name. You are on the eastern side of it. To the west are big mountains, the domain of the giants, and beyond that is where Ozvegoth breathes the life outta you.
How big is the continent? ???
Are there other continents? Probably? Why are you so nosy about continents?
Are there other possible places where mortal life is surviving? No, that would be impossible.
Are there seasons like what we have on earth? Yes.
A moon? Cerise! She who comes and goes as she pleases.
Multiple moons? It's said there was a second moon that the God-Emperor destroyed during the Last Holy War. Not sure why, but on certain nights you can see specks up in the night sky, twinkling with moonlight. Maybe that's it?
If Highhaven is known as the city of reason and light, what’s education like? Poor, but it exists. Those with money and/or prestige are often the best educated, but no city will ever have the knowledge that the ancients did. It's the price we paid to rid ourselves of the God-Emperor.
Religion is shunned, but what about science and technology and magic? Science and tech -- see the last question. Magic is around but you usually won't see it on a day-to-day basis. There's an undercurrent in the old texts that indicates that magic was the antithesis to the God-Emperor's divine power, and may have even been created specifically to kill Him. But that seems at odds with, say, natural magic of the druids. Who knows.
Is there a push to try and repopulate the world? Oh no, we're all doomed. Can't fuck our way out of this one! The encroaching darkness never wanes, like a tide that keeps coming.
What’s the topography and biome directly around the mesa that is Highhaven? Desert, forest, jungle, open plains? Open savannah type plains. Lots of tall, dry grass and low broad trees that dot the landscape. Lake Ephera's water comes from the mountains to the west, supposedly an ancient pact between cloud giants and the humans.
In general, Broadsea prides itself on being as antithetical to the God-Emperor's tyrannical rule as possible. With that in mind:
Who makes the rules? The Princeps, who is one-third of the Trimvirate, also serves as the governor of the city and oversees the creation of legislation through the Senate, which is composed of ten individuals from each ward. The Princeps serves as tiebreaker.
Who enforces the rules? There is a city guard, the Constabulary.
How do those people gain power? The Princeps is elected for a 10-year span, while each member of the Senate is elected every 2 years.
Do people vote? With gusto!
Is there a military force? There is a military for Broadsea overall, known as the Last Defense. They aren't very well liked, however, and often are called the Bunkermen (as in, they'd rather hide in a bunker than fight). Each city-state's local guard acts as a pseudo-military force as well, with Tynzeri's elven Seradverai being by far the best trained.
What’s the economy? Coins. Trade. The usual.
Do people pay taxes? Yep!
Are they happy about it? Are people ever happy with paying taxes?
What social services are provided if there are taxes? Most tax money goes toward city defense, considering how dangerous it is outside. Beyond that, mostly infrastructure and administration costs. Fixing potholes, filing forms, that sort of thing.
Is it a melting pot or a salad bowl? Salad bowl. Sushi roll! Disparate items that come together to form a good meal.
Is there racism and misogyny and anti lgbtqia sentiment or are people chill and open minded? People are people, they have their own machinations. Some people are shitty, some aren't. I'd say mostly chill though because racism doesn't matter as much when the world is going to end.
Is anyone trying to do anything about the state of the world? I mean ... you are, aren't you? Isn't that what adventurers are for? But really, yeah, of course, people are always trying, and have been since the death of the God-Emperor ... which we all thought WAS the best plan...
Any theories on how to improve things or attempts to make it better? Besides the biggest one -- "kill all the big scary eldritch/primordial things" -- not really. Nothing that seems to have any significant weight to it at least. Got any ideas?
